The path up to Åndervatnet starts from the car park and goes North-West into Ånderdalen valley. The path is about 6 km long and the route up to the lake takes about tree hours. The first kilometers are through flat and easy forest terrain. Boardwalks take you across the wettest areas.
After two hour the path leads up a scarp and immediately after that, by a creek, the path divides. The left path will take you towards Ånderelva river and follow the river to the lake. The path to the right leads right up to the lake.
Lake Åndervatnet is beautifully situated in the heart of the national park. In the background we see Henrikshovve (853 m.a.s) and in the North-East the caracteristic Kolkjerka mountain (653 m.a.s).
Senja turlags marked route follows the east side of the lake going north past lake Kapervatnet. On the north side of the lake the route continues to Kaperdalen valley across Ilstinden peak (the highest point of the route). Going West, from the northern end of lake Kapervatnet, a path leads down Söndre Kaperskaret to Gjeska, between Sifjorden and Flakkstadvåg.

After an hour the path divides and the left path takes you to the river.
